We had a beautiful run of only 19 miles to this gorgeous, historical small town of Beaufort, SC (Downtown Marina). Beaufort is the second oldest town in South Carolina, behind Charleston. Since we are only here for a day, we made our way around town as soon as we tied up and walked the dogs. We enjoyed sandwiches from the local market, a bit of window shopping and some purchasing!

The six of us decided the best way to see the town was to take a carriage ride to explore and learn. Not to mention we could sit back and relax while taking in the spectacular neighboorhoods in the historic district. Beaufort is rich with cinematic inspiration with such films as Forrest Gump, GI Jane and The Big Chill, being filmed here. Many of the antebellum homes date from the 1800's. The landscape is breathtaking and the people...KIND AS CAN BE! I love the south, the food, the people the history, the charm.

This raised brick platform was for using to get on horse and/or carriage. |

The round brick design on the chimney indicates how many fire places are located in the house or stable. |
Located in close proximity are three military establishments, Parris Island, U. S Naval Hospital, and home of the Marine Corps Air Station, very loud and very impressive!! Rumor has it a famous actress called the Marine Corps Air Station (she was renting a home here in Beaufort while filming a movie) requesting them to not fly over the house before 8:00am, as the noise was waking her up. Needless to say the Marine Corps Airmen made that very house she was renting, a
must-fly-by every single morning at 5:30 am until filming stopped.
This town has a lot more to offer and it certainly is going to be added to our list of re-visits. Next time, two days!
