We are on Lake Huron!!!

Looking out from our slip in Port Austin
We had a great day on the lake, only 2 foot waves and a nice cool breeze. It was a long travel day, 94 miles and we did it in less than 9 hours. We traveled at 11mph for most of the run. The only part that slowed us down was making our way up the Saint Clair River (which was the beginning of our travel), we were traveling against the current. There is a bridge that has current up to 8 knots where Lake Huron flows into the river. It makes it tricky to pass under the Blue Water Bridge. You have to be on your game and work the wheel. There are warnings for boats that are underpowered (sail boats, and smaller motored vessels) to stay to the inside of the bend where the current will be less. We felt it for sure, but our boat and my captain handled this very well. I was the one who was doing NOTHING and was nervous. The Blue Water Bridge is pretty cool, it is an international bridge connecting Port Huron, Michigan to Ontario Canada. It is the second busiest crossing from the US to Canada.

Port Austin was our destination that was suggested by blog follower Marie, glad we were able to meet her and her husband and happy we made the visit to this cute town. We enjoyed the marina (they had free laundry!!!) and meeting all the fellow boaters and townsfolk. We had many suggestions to eat at a couple places, one was closed and the other had an extremely long wait. Since we had another long travel day our following day, we made our way to the grocer. Crocket loved walking around the marina, there was a park and lots of spots for sniffing, something Crocket feels is very important, so we oblige.

In Michigan, liquor stores are called party stores. When I first moved to Illinois from Michigan, I asked a local where the nearest party store was. Her directions led me to an actual "party" store, selling balloons and party favors etc.
This was the main street we saw in town. There were three or four restaurants but only two open. We did not luck out getting into either of the locations so we went to the grocery store, bought and cooked our dinner on the boat.
The Bank, one of the restaurants everyone recommended, only it was closed.
The sunset view was glorious.
