Almost to Lake Huron

Jammin Jane docked at Desmond Marine in Port Huron, MI. Pretty cool with the draw bridge opened (opens only on the hour and the half hour).
We traveled 46 miles up the St Clair River to Port Huron. We were traveling on a Sunday, leaving fairly early as we experienced how busy the River gets on the weekends. We figured it would get busier around 10:00...sure enough the river was booming by then! It was much livelier than most of our cruising has been but it reminded me of boating on the Chain of Lakes in Illinois. Lots of people driving in all directions at high rates of speed. We of course do not travel fast but we also handle the waves (from the wakes of all the boats) much better than any of those speed boats...that's one for the trawler!

We took on fuel for our run up Lake Huron at Desmond Marine (They gave us our dockage for free because we spent a lot on diesel) and stayed the night on their dock wall.  Our walk into town was enjoyable, the temperature cooled down quite a bit and Crocket loved his sightseeing tour. We spotted a Mexican restaurant while on our walk and went back for dinner. We called it an early night as we had a 94 mile run to make the following day. Port Huron was a nice stop, but the Dairy Queen ran out of vanilla ice cream (how does that happen???) and the other ice cream store closed about an hour before we showed up. O'well...I guess it was a little chilly anyway!

This was our first run in over a week. I was a bit excited to continue our trip but sad to leave Lake St Clair and all our friends and family. It also means we are getting closer to home. Something I'm feeling a bit indifferent about. I'm excited to see our family, friends and our house and my car. But, I'm more sad to be off the boat not traveling to a new destination each week. So, after much discussion, we decided we are going to spend one winter home then throw our lines again next fall and make our way south. For now, I'm feeling content knowing that Jammin Jane will continue traveling! I will keep the blog going if you care to join us in our endeavors on land, which includes finding and buying a house in Wisconsin, selling our house in Illinois, maybe an ice fishing, skiing, snowmobile excursion or two, OH AND doing some boat work.

The river we were docked included a yacht club and a restaurant. Great spot to boat watch!

Really cool, old buildings
Ben really loves old porcelain enameled signs...
And building fronts
We had a great spot on the wall behind a locked gate and because of the building we were in the shade. But that very building blocked our satellite antenna resulting in no TV for us for the night.
