My first trip to NYC!

From the Great Kills Yacht Club (where we stayed for several days) there is a train that runs to St. George where you then take the Staten Island ferry over to New York City, passing the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and lower Manhattan. I took my first train ride in New York, my first ferry ride and my first visit to the enormous city. It was a bit overwhelming, tons of people and lots and lots of stuff going on. Ben and I spent a couple days visiting the 9/11 Memorial Museum, the famous Katz's Deli (where Meg Ryan performed the orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally), Chinatown and Little Italy, we ate our way through all of it.

View of city as we are exiting the Staten Island Ferry
9/11 Memorial reflection pool. There are two pools that sit in the footprint of the twin towers. The names of all lives lost are inscribed along the edges of the pool. This was a very emotional experience.
These are called the "survivors stairs", providing safety to many people on 9/11. The damage you see came during the 9 months rebuilding the area.
One of the first responders to the attack, Ladder Company 3, the truck was damaged when the North Tower collapsed. All 11 fire fighters from this company bravely lost their lives.

We made it to the famous Katz's Deli! Wow! Delicious! We split a pastrami sandwich and fries.

Chinatown...interesting to find Vietnamese food!
We love Pho!

A well stocked Italian meat market. We could have stayed here all day, just didn't have room (or desire) to carry everything we wanted.
