Small town love, Cape Charles, VA

Homemade ice cream from Brown Dog
Our first trip since Ben threw out his back and we have a new route planned thanks to our friends Betsey and Dave on Frydaze. They are close to crossing their wake (completing the Great Loop) in Solomons, MD so these waters (the Chesapeake) are their stomping grounds. It is funny they were ahead us in our travels north, but it seems the closer they are getting to their home port the slower they seem to go! I'm sure we are going to experience the same thing!

While most Loopers we know traveled the west side up the Chesapeake, we ventured up the east coast. Only traveling 30 miles to a small cute town called Cape Charles, VA. In the 1800's Cape Charles was the spot to catch the ferry (both passenger and car) to Norfolk and Hampton, last ferry ride was in 1963. The town in literally about 5 blocks large and thriving with eclectic shops, bars, and  two nationally ranked golf courses. We only saw a small portion of this town and loved it all. We prefer learning the culture and history, seeing the old historic districts and meeting the locals in small towns rather than getting lost in big bustling towns and marinas.Sma
This town was just that...

While walking in town we came across a group of gentlemen hanging out in front of the hardware store. Those are the people we stop and ask about town and where to go and what to see.

This guy was playing the steel drum at the restaurant (The Shanty) by the marina. Ben and Bob were getting some private lessons.
